The Miskawaan Residences Villa Sila and Villa Wayu, offer large groups a rare opportunity to enjoy enviable modern luxury in a private, absolute beachfront setting. With a removable dividing wall between them, the two seven-bedroomed villas (each with an additional bunk room sleeping up to six children) can be booked independently or as one. Together, they enjoy more than 50m of pristine sand-swept seafront and mesmerising views across the Gulf of Thailand to the island of Koh Phangan.
Without the noise and distractions of some of the busier beaches on Samui's east coast, Mae Nam makes a particularly appealing location for corporate getaways, big family groups and wedding parties, yet it’s only a short drive to the happening spots of Fisherman’s Village or Chaweng at the end of a long hard day’s brainstorming (or sunning by the pool!). There’s ample space to drift between the villas’ gardens, pools and the beach, or gather for meals in the dining sala – perhaps a seafood barbecue prepared by your private chef – ocean on one side, swimming pool on the other. Indoor dining rooms at each villa make alternative venues for evening feasts served from well-equipped western kitchens. The two villas also benefit from the communal facilities of a fitness room and sauna as well as a state-of-the-art conference centre that can comfortably seat up to 30 delegates. And with the bedrooms all having individual access and secluded furnished courtyards, The Residences guarantee plenty of privacy.
Helpful villa managers, Khun Jah and Khun Tai are always on hand and visit every morning to discuss meal arrangements (breakfast is included, and other meals are charged according to grocery costs, plus 30% service, or selected from the villa’s priced menu). The personal chef is also happy to cook up a customised feast, and staff are on hand to serve and clear up – a far more attractive option than self-catering, especially for large groups. The villas also enjoy regular attention from the security and maintenance teams, and the villa managers are available to make recommendations for excursions or help with practical requests.
Miskawaan Residences Villa Sila and Villa Wayu open onto a quiet section of Mae Nam beach, but are only a short stroll from local eateries further along the sand. The two almost identical villas sit side by side, but are hidden from one another by a wall. In the event that they are booked as one unit, the clever design allows for a part of the wall to be removed, creating an open ‘village’ effect with the pavilions, pathways gardens and the beach on your doorstep. The village of Mae Nam offers a selection of local shops, restaurants, bars and modest tourist services such as foot massage, water sports and a pharmacy, while more cosmopolitan Chaweng is a 15-minute drive away.
Ornately carved timber doors and a feng shui-inspired lotus pond greet guests on arrival at the two mirror-image Miskawaan Residences, with Villa Sila on the left of the entrance and Villa Wayu on the right.
Each villa has seven spacious bedrooms (plus a children’s bunk room), indoor and open-air living and dining spaces, and shared conference and fitness facilities to the rear. Living and sleeping pavilions are surrounded by landscaped gardens that lead down to the pool and beach. The master suite presents views over the pool and ocean, while a pavilion opposite houses the open-plan dream kitchen, a dining room, lounge furnished with comfortable couches and flat-screen TV, and a covered veranda with further seating.
Behind the master suite are three pairs of guest rooms with ensuite bathrooms (four king-beds and two-twin beds). The children’s bunk room (which is booked at an additional cost) also has an ensuite bathroom and is a cosy set-up for up to six children.
Sliding doors, expansive windows, vaulted ceilings and light-wood furnishings create an airy feeling throughout Miskawaan Residences. All bedrooms feature bold artwork with splashes of burnt orange and ochre, TV/DVD, fridges, and dressing rooms. The ensuite bathrooms offer indoor and outdoor showers, double vanities and the interconnecting twin rooms include outdoor sunken baths. The master bedroom not only boasts sea views from the pillow, but also a private office with phone and fax.
Shared facilities include a conference room (seating up to 30, with overhead projector and screen, Skype capabilities, DVD, amplifier, in ceiling speakers and iPod docking station) , fitness centre, shower room, sauna, pantry, massage sala. and a second sala which makes a relaxed venue for a break between meetings.
Above a 52m stretch of Mae Nam beach, which is kept pristine by the villa staff, is the 15 x 5m mineralised water swimming pool (a kids safety fence is available on request). The extensive gardens are elevated enough to allow for views out over the beach and ocean without the occasional passer-by looking in. Alongside the pool is a traditional peak-roofed Thai sala, with feature lighting and dining space for 16 guests, featuring the latest outdoor barbecue equipment, a drinks fridge and surround-sound speakers – just the place for sundowners.
