Families will love La Lagune. There's an abundance of space for both adults and kids to enjoy and, unlike many of the villas on the busier north and west coasts of Koh Samui, the surroundings are all but untouched. Kids can safely be left to play on the deserted beach in clear view of their parents reclining on the pool deck, or they can run around in the garden where the only real danger is sunburn. Peace and privacy prevail, and although the sea is quite shallow for much of the year, once you've enjoyed a cooling swim in the salt water infinity pool you can always explore the inshore rock pools, hunting for crabs and shells alongside the friendly local fishermen. The private tennis court demands at least a few sets, and the villa staff are happy to hook up the volleyball net between a couple of coconut palms. Alternatively, relax with a Thai massage (extra charge) in the dedicated massage sala (gazebo) by the beach or just kick back on a sun lounger with a cool drink and enjoy the undisturbed ocean views. La Lagune is the perfect luxury family getaway and with five bedrooms (three doubles and two twins) you can bring the grandparents along too. Mum and Dad will enjoy the spacious, private master bedroom with beach view terrace and bathroom jacuzzi while the kids can enjoy more sociable accommodation with twin rooms that face each other across the inner garden. The open-sided living, dining and kitchen area is ideal to gather for meals and a movie in the evening and a private chef (included but with provisioning on guests' account) prepares a wide range of delicious meals from the in-villa suggestion menu, including seafood on a traditional wood-fired barbecue. A maid visits daily and, because the staff come from the nearby villages, they are a mine of local information and happily recommend trips and local attractions.
La Lagune sits on a secluded bay on Koh Samui’s southern coast, the hinterland peppered with private villas and small residential compounds. There's a clean and pleasant public park with oceanfront fitness centre located a few hundred metres east of the villa, but little else to see or do in the immediate vicinity other than enjoy the beach and views. The only significant landmark is Laem Sor temple, around two kilometres to the west. This beachside temple is shaped like a boat and dedicated to local fishermen. There are no large settlements close by, so peace and quiet is guaranteed.
Entering through wooden gates, a long driveway passes between the lawned garden and the tennis court, leading up to the property. The five bedrooms are reached via stepping stones across a grassy courtyard at the centre of the villa. At the far end of the courtyard is the open-plan living space with a fully-equipped gourmet kitchen and a dining table seating up to twelve people. A small bathroom is situated next to the kitchen and dining area for pool users. The living area has a cream sofa and a pale wooden coffee table in front of a wall-mounted flat-screen Samsung TV and Bose sound system. Folding glass doors on two sides allow natural light to bring the airy room to life. A large sandstone patio doubles as a second living area with white poly-rattan sofas, soft sun beds and a coffee table creating sophisticated indoor/outdoor living choices. Each of the five air conditioned bedrooms features built-in wardrobes and ensuite bathrooms with either covered outdoor showers or indoor showers next to a glassed-in garden. The spacious, king-bedded master bedroom has a flat-screen TV and DVD player as well as an indulgent jacuzzi tub in its ensuite. Two of the guest bedrooms are twin bedded, reaffirming the suitability of La Lagune as a family holiday villa, while one of the two queen-bedded guestrooms features a four-poster bed complete with romantic white cotton canopy. All the bedrooms boast sliding glass doors, which can be opened to usher in the light and sea breezes. Near the beach, two salas are ideally positioned for whiling away the sunny days. The large sala to the left of the pool is furnished with a sofa and white rattan tables and chairs, while the second sala, in a quiet beachfront position to the far right of the garden, features daybeds on a raised wooden platform, perfect for massage. The blue-tiled, infinity swimming pool offers sweeping views over the ocean, as does a relaxing hammock strung between two coconut trees where the lawn meets the sand.
