Panorama Summit

The Villa

If it’s views you’re after, you’ve come to the right place. All five bedrooms at Panorama Summit, and most of the living areas, overlook either Bang Rak and Plai Laem beaches to the west, or the bays of Choeng Mon to the east. Guests also enjoy prime views of the island’s most dramatic and impressive temples – Wat Plai Laem and Big Buddha – as they glisten in the sun. And what’s more, the villa’s hilltop position presents spectacular sunrise (if you can force yourself out of your comfortable bed) and sunset panoramas.

When it’s time to cool off, take a dip in the graciously curved infinity pool that appears to overflow into the coconut plantations far below. Sun loungers are positioned for optimal tanning and to make the most of the view, but shade seekers will enjoy the spacious fan-cooled lounge, dining and kitchen area that lies to the back of the pool, and makes an ideal spot for socialising and sundowners.

When you’re in the mood for a little ‘me time’, the airy bedrooms, with their décor of white and neutral shades, offer the required tranquillity. And although the view arguably provides all the visual stimulation you’ll need during your stay, those that simply must catch up on the news or sport, or want to escape into a movie, can retire to the TV room with large comfy sofas.

With so much to keep you entertained at the villa, you may not want to venture out, but if you do, the restaurants and beautiful beaches of Choeng Mon are just down the hill (the Samui Summit estate offers a competitively priced transfer service to Choeng Mon and elsewhere on the island), while in-villa services, including massages and a private chef, can be arranged by your villa manager with ease.

Location

Panorama Summit sits, as you might expect, at the top of the Samui Summit Estate, hedged by tropical gardens and commanding the best views. A little way down the hill is the estate’s tennis court, which available to guests (equipment can be hired from the office). Security is not really an issue in Samui, but being part of a secure estate is comforting from a privacy perspective. Although Choeng Mon village is only about 500m away, it’s down a relatively steep hill, so you may prefer to organise a car or use the estate’s transfer service (extra charge) – at least on the way back. The village is quaint, with a good variety of upmarket restaurants and cafés, while the beach at Choeng Mon is one of the best on the island, and is particularly good for children.

Rooms

Panorama Summit is a thoughtfully laid-out villa, with communal areas arranged around the pool on the lower floor and four of the five bedrooms on the upper level. (The fifth bedroom is downstairs but still offers plenty of privacy and has the bonus of being only a few steps from the pool.)

The entrance to the villa is on the upper floor. Steps from the parking area lead down to a wide balcony, off which are four bedrooms – all with stunning ocean views. The two luxuriously sized king-bedded master suites feature elegant wood flooring and large ensuite bathrooms – one with an outdoor shower, the other with a private terrace. Two twin-bedded guest rooms lie between the masters. All bedrooms at Panorama Summit are tastefully furnished in neutral shades, with sea-grass mats and teakwood carvings on the walls.

A sweeping sandstone staircase leads down to the villa’s living areas, free-form infinity pool, curved terrace and more spectacular views. The sandstone pool terrace flows seamlessly into a fan-cooled semi-outdoor lounge, complete with comfortable rattan seating and a row of built-in couches at the rear – which is also open to the view.

To one side of the lounge a glossy white, fully equipped kitchen, complete with island server and bar stools, leads to a 10-seater dining table and fan-cooled living area where an oversized white sofa set takes advantage of the views. A feature wall of shelves displays Thai artefacts and houses the music system. The neutral-toned theme carries through to this room, but is punctuated with splashes of red. For alfresco dining, there’s an all-weather table set next to the pool.

An air-conditioned TV room lies between the open lounge and the kitchen, equipped with satellite-channel TV and DVD player. Three walls of comfortable couches make this a great room for watching a movie or just chilling.

At the far side of the pool is the fifth bedroom with a king bed, ensuite bathroom and terrazzo flooring. It’s almost as large as the two master suites above and is furnished in the same calming white and neutral tones.
